Mass Customization

The company has developed core modeling technology that allows companies to build genetic CAD models representing a family of product possibilities. Such an interactive CAD model enables non-designers to create viable design variations. Most customization methods currently replicate catalogues – allowing users to choose from a wide range of pre-configured possibilities. By embedding design knowledge into the CAD model itself, it is possible to create significant design variations – without design knowledge. This make this method ideal for consumer-driven mass customization applications.

This method involves the creation of:

  • A parametric CAD model representing a very large range of design variations. It is created with a build sequence closely following the manufacturing process.
  • Parametric constraint envelops are created to represent manufacturing, performance, engineering, performance, cost and other constraints.
  • An interactive, preferably web deployable model that operates within the viable design space defined by the intersection of the constraint envelopes.
  • Models created using this method can be rendered realistically in 3D online enabling consumers to view created designs. Such an approach extends product design beyond the current configuration systems allowing greater creative play and enabling the creation of a much more diverse range of product possibilities.
